TITLE: No Upper Memory on a Toshiba 3200 Laptop DOCUMENT ID: TID21479 DOCUMENT REVISION: 1 DATE: 13MAR95 ALERT STATUS: Yellow README FOR: NA NOVELL PRODUCT and VERSION: Novell DOS 7 ABSTRACT: NA --------------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. However, when EMS memory is enabled, no upper memory blocks are displayed. When EMS is disabled, only 64K of upper memory appears. CAUSE: For whatever reason, this machine, doesn't allocate upper memory with EMS enabled unless forced to do so. This machine is one of the original production units. TROUBLESHOOTING: Tried using the switch /I=C800-DFFF to include upper memory. Tried using MS DOS and DR DOS' memory managers, but the results were almost the same (MS didn't show any, and DR showed 68K instead of 64K without EMS enabled). SOLUTION: Used the switch /U=C800-DFFF to force EMM386 to use that area of upper memory. After that 96K of upper memory was made available and device drivers could take advantage of that without any repercussions.
