The conversion process returns an error 'trying to get free space from host drive' and the conversion process halts. TROUBLESHOOTING: User has DR DOS 6.0 with SuperStor. They SuperStor'd a D: Drive choosing to compress the entire drive. SuperStor will compress the entire drive leaving 0 bytes free on the host, which SuperStor will do to a logical drive in an extended partition or 2nd physical hard drive. When ND7 is installed and a conversion to Stacker is attempted, the conversion process returns an error 'trying to get free space from host drive' and the conversion process halts. In order to convert a compressed drive to Stacker about 1MB is required on the host drive. SOLUTION: User has 2 options: OPTION 1: Leave on the DR DOS SuperStor. The CHKDSK and DISKOPT utilities are backward compatible. This option will work ONLY IF you have not converted other SuperStor Volume(s) to Stacker. WARNING: The Stacker conversion process will convert all SuperStor Volumes that it can. Example: C: boot partition compressed (SuperStor will leave about 512k free on host drive if entire boot drive is compressed,) and a logical drive in an extended partition or 2nd physical drive (drive d:) entirely compressed with 0 bytes free on host drive. The Stacker compression conversion recognized that the drives were SuperStor'd and the option to convert was selected. The C: boot drive was converted without problem but the drive d: with 0 bytes free was not. No error messages were returned. On reboot only the newly converted Stacker C: drive was accessable. The D: drive contained only the SSPARTSS.ADD file with 0 bytes free. Their only option at this point is: Load the SuperStor Config.sys drivers, reboot, backup SuperStor'd data, delete the SuperStor drive, remove the SuperStor drivers from config.sys, reboot, create a Stacker drive and restore data. OPTION 2: Load the SuperStor Config.sys drivers, reboot, backup SuperStor'd data, delete the SuperStor drive, remove the SuperStor drivers from config.sys, reboot, create a Stacker drive and restore data. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Any trademarks referenced in this document are the property of their respective owners.
