TITLE: Can't Correctly Stac a Low Density Floppy Dis DOCUMENT ID: TID020857 DOCUMENT REVISION: 1 DATE: 02MAY94 ALERT STATUS: Yellow README FOR: NA NOVELL PRODUCT and VERSION: NOVELL DOS 7.0 ABSTRACT: NA --------------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. Example: A: 1.4MB Diskette drive 3.5" B: 1.2MB Diskette drive 5.25" If an attempt is made to compress a low density floppy 3 1/2 720KB or 5 1/4 360KB, (the options within the setup utility don't show the lower density floppy sizes,) the utility assumes the selected floppy size and formats and compresses as such. A 5 1/4" 360KB floppy is formatted and compressed to 2.4MB. CAUSES: Stacker run from the Setup utility will ALWAYS assume the drive type indicates the floppy density, that is, the highest compacity floppy for the drive type. It is not easy to determine the capacity of an unformatted floppy so setup does not attempt to check the capacity of the disk. Setup just checks the drive type. SOLUTION: The only way to correctly compress a low density floppy not supported/listed in SETUP, is by the CREATE command line utility. Be cautioned that the CREATE compresses only free space, any data on the floppy will NOT be compressed. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Any trademarks referenced in this document are the property of their respective owners.
