TROUBLESHOOTING: Customers have 486/66 EISA machines with a EISA SCSI cards. Attached to the SCSI card is an internal hard drive and an external CD ROM. The BIOS recognizes both the hard drive and the CD ROM, ASPI7DOS.SYS driver in the config.sys loads OK as well. But, when the ASPICD.SYS driver tries to load in the CONFIG.SYS it insists that the ASPI7DOS.SYS did not load --- exact error message is "Adaptec ASPI Driver not available CD-ROM driver NOT LOADED:No valid Adaptec host adapter." Even with a vanilla boot (i.e. nothing in CONFIG.SYS but these two drivers) the error still occurs. The ASPICD.SYS driver does load with MS DOS 6.2 and DR DOS 6.0 -- 4/92 (but fails with the DR DOS 6.0 3/93 update). I downloaded the ADAPTEC update file and rev'ed the ASPI drivers up to 3.0, but it made no difference. I tested with a BUSLOGIC EISA SCSI card and its drivers--this configuration *DOES* work. SOLUTION: There is now a newer driver available from Adaptec which addresses this issue (SPR 998074).
