TITLE: EMM386 errors with Norton's NCACHE2 DOCUMENT ID: TID1003394 DOCUMENT REVISION: 1 DATE: 22MAY95 ALERT STATUS: Yellow README FOR: NA NOVELL PRODUCT and VERSION: Novell DOS 7 ABSTRACT: NA --------------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. NOVELL MAKES NO EXPLICIT OR IMPLIED CLAIMS TO THE VALIDITY OF THIS INFORMATION. --------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOM: Loading SHARE, KEYB or MEM after Symantec's (Norton) NCACHE2 would result in an EMM386 protection error. Norton's Speed Cache behaves the same. CAUSE: A conflict between NCACHE2 and Novell DOS 7's implementation and use of the HMA. SOLUTION: Apply the Novell DOS 7.0 update files for SHARE.EXE, KEYB.COM and MEM.EXE dated 5/08/95 or later located in D70Uxx.EXE. SHARE.EXE, KEYB.COM and MEM.EXE dated 5/08/95 fixes SPR #76641. This is only a partial fix. If NCACHE2 is unloaded from memory, a MEM will still result in a EMM386 protection error. This issue will not be addressed. According to engineering there is no reasonable way around this due to Novell DOS 7.0s implimentation and use of the HMA. NOTE: The option to load NCACHE2.EXE /USEHMA=OFF will cause NCACHE2 not to use the HMA. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Any trademarks referenced in this document are the property of their respective owners.
