TITLE: Viewlogic and SHARE compatibility issue DOCUMENT ID: TID1002346 DOCUMENT REVISION: 0 DATE: 24MAR95 ALERT STATUS: Yellow README FOR: NA NOVELL PRODUCT and VERSION: Novell DOS 7 ABSTRACT: NA --------------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. Novell Perfect Office and OLE 2.0 support requires that SHARE.EXE be loaded on a Novell DOSworkstation to work correctly, but other applications do not operate correctly; Viewlogic Pro-Series, Viewlogic Simulator by Viewlogic Systems(508-480-0881), and intermittant probems with Easyroute Pro by Advanced Microcomputer Systems. Viewlogic doesn't print with SHARE.EXE loaded but works fine with MS-DOS's vshare. CAUSE: Viewlogic Systems' windows applications have problems with SHARE.EXE from both Novell DOS 7.0 and MS-DOS. The reported bug issue is a "problem with parameter passing" and specifically causes problems with printing. SOLUTION: To correct the problem, Viewlogic started to use VSHARE.386, thus requiring customers to load VSHARE.386 and NOT load SHARE.EXE. This workarround / fix is fine for MS-DOS customers but will not work due to differences with ND7 and MS-DOS. Novell DOS 7 (ND7) and MSDOS 6.xx handle VSHARE support in different ways. MSDOS 6.xx has VSHARE support built into its kernel. ND7 has VSHARE support built into SHARE.EXE. ND7 offers the same level of VSHARE support and functionality as MSDOS 6.xx.
