In this release you'll be able to: Connect to NetWare servers Map drives to NetWare servers Utilize NetWare File Services Print to NetWare print queues Use mutual login with the Windows NT workstation and a NetWare server Use a single network card to run Windows NT networking and NetWare We currently support the following network cards: Novell NE1000 Novell NE2000 Novell NE2 Novell NE2-32 Novell NTR2000 IBM Token-Ring 3Com 3C503 3Com 3C509 We will update the list of supported network cards in the future. Important: This pre-release software allows users of Microsoft's Windows NT Beta II release to have a first look at how the NetWare Client works transparently with Windows NT. However, as Novell and Microsoft complete product development for the NetWare Client and the Windows NT OS respectively, interfaces and functionality will be added or may be changed. ** Before You Install You should have installed Windows NT Beta II (Build 404) on your system. We suggest you make your login name for NetWare servers the same as your username for Windows NT. You can either add a new user on your Windows NT system or use the DOS SYSCON utility to change your NetWare login name. ** Installing the NetWare Client for Windows NT The NetWare Client for Windows NT uses Microsoft's network install applet to provide a single network installation point for both NetWare and Windows NT. 1. Log on to your NT system using an account that has Administrative privileges. 2. From the Program Manager's Main window, choose Control Panel. From Control Panel, choose Network. 3. Choose Add Software in the Network Settings dialog box. 4. Scroll the multi-list selection box down to " Requires disk from manufacturer" and select it. You will be prompted for a disk in Drive A: 5. Insert the Netware Client for Windows NT "Install" diskette into drive A:. 6. Select "NetWare Services for Windows NT" and choose OK. Choose Continue from the Add Network Software dialog box. 7. Choose OK from the dialog that asks for Drive A:. Note: This dialog is a bug in Microsoft's network setup applet that will be fixed in a future release. Setup copies NetWare files to their appropriate directories and adds them to the installed software list. 8. Choose Add Adapter in the Network Settings dialog box. From the multi-list selection box, choose the ODI driver you wish to run. The selected ODI driver appears in the Installed Adapter Cards list. Note: All ODI drivers begin with ODI in their description strings. All other drivers are NDIS drivers and will not bind to NetWare Transports. 9. Select Bindings from the Network Settings dialog to view the NetWare driver bindings. 10. Upon exiting the Network Settings dialog box, you will be prompted to reboot your system. You must reboot in order for NetWare Services to become active. ** Installing NetWare and Windows NT Networking Using a Single Network Card Currently the single card solution (ODINSUP.SYS) only works with Ethernet. Once we have Token-Ring functionality completed, we will refresh the build on CompuServe. 1. After you have successfully installed the NetWare Client for Windows NT, repeat steps 1 and 2 from the installation steps above. 2. Choose Add Adapter in the Network Settings dialog box. 3. Select "Novell ODINSUP Adapter" from the multi-list selection box. "Novell ODINSUP Adapter" now appears in the Installed Adapter Cards list. 4. Any pre-installed Windows NT networking software will now bind to the "Novell ODINSUP Adapter" or you may choose "Add Software" to add additional Windows NT networking software. You must reboot your machine in order for the "Novell ODINSUP Adapter" to become active. ** Accessing NetWare Services You can access NetWare services through File Manager and Control Panel. Remember, to specify network resources, you must use UNC formatting conventions (\\SERVER\VOLUME\DIRECTORY\DIRECTORY). Note that under "Connect Network Drive," long path names may be truncated when they are displayed in the lower box. This is a known problem but does not affect its functionality. Control Panel: The NetWare icon in the Control Panel lists your connections, username, and connection ID. It offers connection management and drive management. ** Known Problems and Caveats REDIRECTOR: To set the preferred server configuration option for the redirector 1. Start the REGEDT32 program. 2. Select options in this order HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on Local Machine SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services NetWareWorkstation Parameters 3. From the "Parameters" sub-key, create a value called "Preferred Server" using the data type "REG_SZ". 4. Enter the name of your server you wish to connect to at boot time. You must reboot the machine in order for the preferred server option to take effect. IPXSPXII: By default IPXSPXII uses the default frame type ETHERNET_802.3. To use a different frame type 1. Start the REGEDT32 program. 2. Select options in this order HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on Local Machine SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services IpxSpxII Parameters FrameType 3. Change the frame type to the type your network is configured for (ETHERNET_802.2, ETHERNET_II, ETHERNET_SNAP). UTILITIES: Win32 NetWare utilities are still under development. DOS SUPPORT: Support for NetWare based DOS programs and utilities is still under development. ** Other Network Adapters We have included a selection of the Windows NT drivers that are currently available for NetWare with this client kit. We realize, however, that the driver you need to use your network adapter with Windows NT may not be available at this time. If the driver you need is not in this kit, contact the manufacturer and encourage them to upgrade their NetWare ODI driver to support Windows NT. NetWare ODI 32-bit drivers written to the rev. F (3.1) specification support Windows NT as a client. The following vendors have received the rev. F spec and should be able to upgrade their drivers to support Windows NT.
