NOVELL TECHNICAL INFORMATION DOCUMENT TITLE: Novell client 4.81 for Windows NT/2K Updates TID #: 2960248 README FOR: NT481PT1.EXE NOVELL PRODUCTS and VERSIONS: Novell Clients Novell Client 4.81 for Windows NT/2000 ABSTRACT: Updates for the Novell Client for Windows NT/2000. This files can be installed on the following client: - Novell Client 4.81 for Windows NT/2000 ----------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. NOVELL MAKES ALL REASONABLE EFFORTS TO VERIFY THIS INFORMATION. HOWEVER, THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THIS DOCUMENT IS FOR YOUR INFORMATION ONLY. NOVELL MAKES NO EXPLICIT OR IMPLIED CLAIMS TO THE VALIDITY OF THIS INFORMATION. ----------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: The following installation instructions assume that the Novell Client for Windows NT/2000 v4.81 client has already been installed. Prior to installing any update you should ensure that you have a reliable backup. Right-Click on NT481PT1.INF and then click on INSTALL. The files will then be automatically put in the DependingFileNameRequest-Key in the Registry. The Installation will ask to reboot and during the reboot the new files will be installed. Until the Machine is rebooted the new files won't be effective. Another method to install is to manually copy and replace the existing files as follows. Keep in mind that some of the files might be currently accessed by the Operating system; to work around this (which is only true if you manually copy the files) you can rename the original file and then copy the new files as follows: 1. Copy the new LOGINW32.DLL into the \WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory. 2. Copy the new LGNWNT32.DLL into the \WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory. 3. Copy the new NWGINA.DLL into the \WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory. 4. Copy the new NWSETUP.DLL into the \WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory. 5. Copy the new NDPPNT.DLL into the \WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory. 6. Copy the new NWFS.SYS into the \WINNT\SYSTEM32\NETWARE directory. 7. Copy the new NWDNS.SYS into the \WINNT\SYSTEM32\NETWARE directory. 8. Copy the new NWSAP.SYS into the \WINNT\SYSTEM32\NETWARE directory. 9. Copy the new NWSNS.SYS into the \WINNT\SYSTEM32\NETWARE directory. 10. Copy the file NWDHCPOptions.EXE into the \WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory. 11. The file WA.INF cannot be activated using this method, you have to follow the next installation method or use the NT481PT.INF file. If you want to do an overlay (an installation of Novell client 4.81 together with this PT1-Patch), then please follow these instructions: 1. Copy the new LOGINW32.DLL into the \i386\LIBS32 directory. 2. Copy the new LGNWNT32.DLL into the \i386\LIBS32 directory. 3. Copy the new WA.INF into the \i386\NLS\ENGLISH directory. 4. Copy the new NWGINA.DLL into the \i386\REDIR directory. 5. Copy the new NWSETUP.DLL into the \i386 directory. 6. Copy the new NDPPNT.DLL into the \i386\REDIR directory. 7. Copy the new NWFS.SYS into the \i386\REDIR directory. 8. Copy the new NWDNS.SYS into the \i386\REDIR directory. 9. Copy the new NWSAP.SYS into the \i386\REDIR directory. 10. Copy the new NWSNS.SYS into the \i386\REDIR directory. 11. For the file NWDHCPOptions.EXE please note: You have to copy this file into \WINNT\SYSTEM32\ directory. Then, to activate the service, you open a CMD Windows and install the service as follows: %SystemRoot%\System32\ and install the service using "NWDHCPOptions -i" The Service will then be activated automatically after the next reboot. This is a new file and won't be installed during the overlayed installation nor will it be activated if you do a installation as described in the beginning of this Installation instruction. You always have to activate this service as described above. Please see the issue- section for more information about whether you even need this file. ISSUE: The following problems have been resolved. This list is a compilation of recent problems which have been resolved and incorporated within the Novell client 4.80 but not necessarily within 4.81: NWFS.SYS - Unable to access volume folders via browse or UNC - File Corruption after Backup and Restore using NTBackup / Veritas Backup - Client for Windows NT uses NCP 87,1 instead of 87,4 to move a file or sub- directory - Lotus Notes (and other applications) might hang - NetWare Copy can't copy ".xls" files - Directory name is shortened from ".example" to ".exm" NWDNS.SYS - Blue Screen after Login NWSAP.SYS & NWSNS.SYS - Preferred protocol is set to IP: Client would not RIP for IPX services LGNWNT32.DLL & LOGINW32.DLL - Grace login decrements not working if local Login - Client is not notifying at any point about an expired Password - If the user password is expired, the dialog box that the password has expired and x number of grace logins are remaining does not show up. - User is no longer prompted to change the password. - NT credentials pre-populated on AutoAdminQueryNDS NWDHCOptions.EXE & NWSetup.DLL - DHCP option 85 (Preferred Server) is not correctly handled on Microsoft Windows 2000. More information about this can be found here: http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/10065177.htm NWGINA.DLL - Resolves random Blue Screen which may experienced on Windows NT 4.0 only NDPPNT.DLL - Spoolsv access violation errors and canceled print job(s) WA.INF - Workstation continually tries to upgrade the Client with a new version.
