NOVELL TECHNICAL INFORMATION DOCUMENT TITLE: Novell client 4.80 for Windows NT/2K Updates TID #: 2961338 README FOR: NT480PT5.EXE NOVELL PRODUCTS and VERSIONS: Novell Client 4.8 for Windows NT/2000 ABSTRACT: Updates for the Novell Client for Windows NT/2000. This files can be installed on the following client: - Novell Client 4.80 SP3 for Windows NT/2000 ----------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. NOVELL MAKES ALL REASONABLE EFFORTS TO VERIFY THIS INFORMATION. HOWEVER, THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THIS DOCUMENT IS FOR YOUR INFORMATION ONLY. NOVELL MAKES NO EXPLICIT OR IMPLIED CLAIMS TO THE VALIDITY OF THIS INFORMATION. ----------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: The following installation instructions assume that the Novell Client for Windows NT/2000 v4.80 client has already been installed. Prior to installing any update you should ensure that you have a reliable backup. Right-Click on Install.INF and then click on INSTALL. The files will then be automatically put in the PendingFileNameRequest-Key in the Registry. The Installation will ask to reboot and during the reboot the new files will be installed. Until the Machine is rebooted the new files won't be effective. Another method to install is to manually copy and replace the existing files. Keep in mind that some of the files might be currently accessed by the Operating system; to work around this (which is only true if you manually copy the files) you may rename the original file and then copy the new file. To do an overlay installation, you may simply copy all files from within the Patch into the original installation directory and then, run the installation. It will automatically install the new files. ISSUE: The following problems have been resolved. This list is a compilation of recent problems which have been resolved and incorporated within the Novell client 4.80 but not necessarily within 4.81: TID 2961145 - Unable to access volume folders via browse or UNC TID 2691145 - Unable to rename a directory at the root of a NetWare volume TID 2961015 - W2K client does not decrement the AutoLogonCount TID 2961015 - Extensible Policies does not work when user has limited HKCU rights TID 10067579 - TEMP and TMP environment variables are set to the default system temp directory instead of the user profile temp directory TID 10067579 - Applications that use the TEMP and TMP environment variables are sometimes putting their files into the system temp directory, but TEMP and TMP appear to be correctly pointing into the user profile temp directory TID 10067577 - TEMP and TMP environment variables have the per-session value from a different terminal session TID 10067577 - TEMP and TMP environment variables do not contain a per-session value at all, and simply points to the default user profile temp directory TID 10067577 - TEMP and TMP environment variables have a terminal server session ID contained twice within their values, e.g. "C:\TEMP\8\8" TID 10067578 - CLIENTNAME environment variable contains value appropriate for a different active terminal session TID 10067578 - SESSIONNAME environment variable contains value appropriate for a different active terminal session TID 10067576 - TEMP and TMP environment variables contain per-session values when logged in at the server console on Microsoft Windows 2000 Server TID 2960106 - ndps remote printer management is broken when setting a new printer to DEFAULT. That works as long as the existing printer is already NDPS but does not change the default printer if the existing printer are non-NDPS printer TID 2959779 - Grace Login field is enabled, but the client is not displaying any message to users that the password has expired and how many grace logins remain TID 2959779 - User is no longer prompted to change the password. The Grace Login counter decreases after each login, until it reach 0 (null), then the normal messages is displayed: "Login denied. You have not changed your password" TID 2960355 - On a login dialog that the AutoAdminQueryNDS flag had caused to appear, the username and password fields were pre-filled with the username and password being used for the NT login (i.e. the credentials set for AutoAdminLogon or for the terminal server session login). The fix is to make this situation behave no different than other Novell login dialogs, i.e. the location profile in use and/or the DontDisplayLastUserName flags will define what appears for the Username and no password value will be pre-supplied. Note that the pre-fix behavior can still be requested by setting a DWORD named "AutoCredentialsOnNDSQuery" to 0x01 in the same key as AutoAdminQueryNDS. TID 2959587 - If a desktop has been authenticated to NetWare using bindery credentials, attempting to present the SAS unlock dialog causes the workstation to generate a 0xC000021A bugcheck because the WINLOGON.EXE process shuts down unexpectedly with a 0xC0000005 (access violation) status TID 2957984 - Explorer and file browse dialogs disappear without error when drive letter is mapped to 37-character NetWare resource specification. Applications disappear without error when drive letter is mapped to 40- character UNC path TID 10065146 - login and go to a dos prompt and then go to a volume on the server and create 2 directories "MD ABCD" & MD "ABCE". Then do a dos rename "REN ABCE ABCD". This should return an error about duplicate name but it does not, instead it simply seems to put the ABCE directory into the ABCD directory.
