NOVELL TECHNICAL INFORMATION DOCUMENT TITLE: NAL v1.1 File Updates to NAL v1.11 README FOR: NAL11PT1.EXE NOVELL PRODUCTS and VERSIONS: NAM & Utils - DW 2.11 NAM - Win95 2.11 NAL - NAL11 - IWCLNT41 ABSTRACT: This file contains an upgrade from NAL v1.1 to NAL v1.11. The NWAPP.DLLs were updated so that 1. Applications may be created with UNC pathnames to any server, providing that the appropriate client supports the Windows WNET API, i.e. Windows NT, providing the appropriate MS Client is installed 2. NAL will correctly detect if the schema needs to be extended when the Base Class of the User object contains a large number of extensions, i.e. CallWare These files are not necessary if the administrator is not experiencing the two problems above ----------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. These include such features as: full use of UNC paths for locating and connecting to host servers, fault tolerant application launching, load balancing during application launching, and on screen foldering for applications. The ability to use UNC paths to connect to non-NetWare 4 host servers - for example when an application is hosted on a server running Windows NT Server - enables greater flexibility in the way applications maybe configured. In addition, this also gives applications hosted on NT the same load-balancing and fault-tolerant abilities that NetWare has enjoyed. The balancing and roll over many be to another server of the same kind, or to a different one. For example, in the unlikely event a NetWare server fails the application could be obtained from an NT Server. The Novell Application Launcher is an example of leveraging the information in Novell Directory Services. It provides a system for central management of networked applications and can significantly reduce the cost of maintaining a network.
