SYMPTOM File sharing issues when using Timberline software. SOLUTION Apply NWFS.SYS, 164800 bytes, 4-29-96. SYMPTOM Unable to save a file from MS Project v4.x and MS Word v7.0 (w/ embedded OLE objects) unless user has Supervisor rights. SYMPTOM Using MS Project v4.x if a project file was open & locked, subsequent users were not notified that they were opening the file Read-Only. SYMPTOM When attempting to open a Microsoft Access 2.0 database with MS Access 7.0, the following error occurs: Couldn't use ""; file already in use. The database file is open by workstation and will stay open even if Access is closed. You must logoff or shutdown NT to close the file. SYMPTOM When attempting to open a Microsoft Schedule + v7.0 file residing on a NetWare server the following error is displayed: "There was a problem opening the local schedule file. The file version is not supported." SYMPTOM v3.5b NetWare NT Client will not work on NT v4.x Beta. Note: Even though this patch allows the NT v4.x Beta to work with the v3.5b Client it has not been officially tested by Novell. SYMPTOM NFT errors returned from a cc:mail database that runs on a NetWare server. SOLUTION Apply NWFS.SYS, 165,024 bytes, 04-03-96 or later. SYMPTOM If a file is opened read-only by one process and another process comes along and opens the same file read-write, it fails on this open with a return code of 13. SYMPTOM Beyond Mail returned to following error when loading. "The Dos Share program must be loaded before running Beyond Mail on the paticular platform" SOLUTION Apply NWFS.SYS, 167072 bytes, 12-15-95 or later. SYMPTOM Lotus cc:Mail v2.1 & v2.21 can not receive and read new mail messages that have come in while the application was running. When the inbox is refreshed, the new messages show up as "message can not be read". SYMPTOM When reading mail in GroupWise, a C022 error message could be received designating a corrupt mail box. In Box will not refresh correctly. SOLUTION Apply NWFS.SYS, 167008 bytes, 10-23-95 or later. SYMPTOM NT workstation running NetWare IP (NWIP) will blue screen when in NWIP v2.2 environment. When DOS/Win95 NWIP v2.2 workstations boot they send out an NSQ Broadcast. This broadcast was causing the NT NWIP workstation to blue screen. SOLUTION Apply NWIP.SYS, 33,152 bytes, 04-29-96. SYMPTOM If you login to NT as user XXX and map drive Z to a 4.x server and then logout of NetWare & NT, and then login to NT as user YYY and open file manager you will see the drive Z that user XXX mapped. This doesn't occur on drives mapped to v3.X servers. SOLUTION Apply NWAPI32.DLL, 43,520 bytes, 04-10-96 Apply NWV1_0.DLL, 5,120 bytes, 04-10-96 SYMPTOM Lotus Notes v4.0 encouters SPX problems. SOLUTION Apply IPXSPX.SYS, 57376 bytes, 12-20-95. SYMPTOM Handles not released when NetWare connection is released if the windows application is using a window API "WnetCreateConnection" SOLUTION Apply NETWARE.DLL, 38912, 03-22-96 SYMPTOM When trying to open a file from Excel for NT v5.0 (possibly other apps also) the workstation gets the following error: "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk in drive G: Abort / Retry / Ignore" Where G: is the CD ROM drive. If Ignore is pressed it bounces you out to Program Manager. If you go back to Excel the dialog for opening a file is then present. SOLUTION Apply NETWARE.DLL, 38400 bytes, 1-5-95 or later. SYMPTOM NE3200 ODI lan driver will not load or allow connection to the network. The following error is in the event log: MSMGetPoolSupportLevel is unresolved SOLUTION Apply NE3200.LAN, 14,412 bytes,12-08-94 ****OHTER IMPORTANT ISSUES**** SYMPTOM Loading data files from NetWare server using assorted applications takes a long time in a mixed networking environment. SOLUTION If you are mapping your network drives using NDS paths try using UNC paths instead. UNC paths are mapped in File Manager by clicking Disk / Connect Network Drive from the menu bar. Now click on NetWare Services in the Shared Directories dialog box, this will show two folders, NetWare Directory Services and NetWare Servers. UNC paths are mapped by clicking down through the NetWare Servers folder. Mapping UNC paths this way has dramatically increased the performance of loading data files in some applications. This issue is currently under investigation by Novell Engineering. SYMPTOM 32 & 16 bit Windows applications load very slowly in a mixed Novell/Microsoft networking environment. SOLUTION Move the NetWare Print Services to the top of the print provider list. This is done by opening the Control Panel, opening the Network icon and clicking the Networks button on the right side of the Network Settings view. You should now see the Network Providers Search Order view. Click the drop down list on "Show Providers for:" and change it to Print Provider. This will show the print providers that are installed. Highlight the NetWare Printer Services and then press the up arrow on the right side of the view. Click OK. The NetWare Print Services will now be the first print provider to be searched for a printer. SYMPTOM Slow performance on the network. SOLUTION In some network environments where many burst resends might be required, packet burst should be turned off. This issue is currently under investigation by Novell Engineering and will be resolved in a future release. Packet burst can be turned off in Control Panel/Network, highlight Novell NetWare Client Services in the Installed Network Software window. Press Configure, then Advanced>>. The files NWMV.EXE & REBOOT.EXE are used for installing this update and can be deleted once UPDATE.CMD is run. Use the following Install instructions for the NE3200.LAN ODI driver. 1. Replace \i386\LANDRV\NE3200.LA_ (5-18-95) with NE3200.LAN ( 12-08-94) on the second NT Client install Diskette. ( It doesn't need to be compressed) 2. Go into Control Panel Click on Networks Icon 3. Remove current Adapter 4. Add the ODI NE3200 Adapter 5. When prompted for Path to Netware ODI driver use A: and the modified second NT Client disk that has the NE3200.LAN (12-08-94). 6. Continue and Reboot when prompted. Note: If Service Pack 4 is applied to a Windows NT machine, the UPDATE utility in NTCx patch file does not work correctly. The UPDATE copies files to their destination directory with a "~" in front and on reboot they are renamed before loading. Service Pack 4 breaks this process. A solution for this problem is in progress. Workaround for this issue: After running UPDATE.CMD manually copy the files from their names with a "~" in the front to their names without the "~". Currently in NTC6 the file NETWARE.DLL, NWAPI32.DLL and NWV1_0.DLL in the WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory and NWFS.SYS, NWIP.SYS and IPXSPX.SYS in the WINNT\SYSTEM32\NETWARE directory must be renamed. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Any trademarks referenced in this document are the property of their respective owners.
