NOVELL TECHNICAL INFORMATION DOCUMENT TITLE: Novell Client 3.21 for Windows 95/98 Updates TID #: 2957880 README FOR: 95321PT5.EXE NOVELL PRODUCTS and VERSIONS: Novell Client 3.21 for Windows 95/98 ABSTRACT: Updates for the Novell Client 3.21 for Windows 95/98. ----------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. NOVELL MAKES ALL REASONABLE EFFORTS TO VERIFY THIS INFORMATION. HOWEVER, THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THIS DOCUMENT IS FOR YOUR INFORMATION ONLY. NOVELL MAKES NO EXPLICIT OR IMPLIED CLAIMS TO THE VALIDITY OF THIS INFORMATION. ----------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: Prior to installing any update you should ensure that you have a reliable backup. ******************************************************************** To update the client source files for new client installations: ******************************************************************** Do not maintain the directory structure created during extraction of this update; The updated files must be copied into the original directory structure already present in the shipping installation set. When the setup program is subsequently run from the updated installation set directory, the updated files will be installed automatically. Uncompressed files will take precedent over compressed file during the client install. *********************************************************************** To update a workstation where the client has already been installed: *********************************************************************** Extracting this update will create a directory structure indicating the proper location for the installed files. 1. Prior to installing any update you should ensure that you have a reliable backup. 2. Update the client by copying the new files into \NOVELL\CLIENT32 directory. 3. Update the client by copying the new files into \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. 4. The new SETUP.EXE is only for a new installation of the Novell Client v3.21 for Windows 95/98. Replace the older SETUP.EXE with this new version prior to installing the client. ******************************************************************** To Install the Microsoft Policy Editor administrator templates: ******************************************************************** Copy the ADM files to the network or to a local drive and then add them as templates to be used in the policy file. The policy template for the Novell Client for Windows 95/98 is contained in two files, client32.adm and novell.adm, due to the policy file size limit of Policy Editor. More details: These ADM files are templates that can be used with Microsoft's Policy Editor (poledit.exe) so that the user's policy includes the Novell Client configuration settings (in addition to the rest of their user policy, which is stored in CONFIG.POL or NTCONFIG.POL on the server and is read at login time). These ADM files can also be used with ZENworks Extensible Policies to configure and control Novell Client settings. ZENworks Extensible Policies provides the same functionality as poledit.exe, but it has the advantage of storing the policy information in NDS, rather than on a server, which is much easier to manage. Therefore you can create or edit a user policy package in NDS, modify the extensible policy and use these ADM files to configure the client settings. If you've registered and imported workstation objects in your tree, then you can create or edit a workstation policy package, which includes a Novell Client Configuration policy, that will configure the Novell Client settings. Using a workstation policy package eliminates the need for the ADM files all together, but it requires the creation of workstation objects, and the NWAdmin snapin for the Novell Client Configuration policy must provide all the options for the client settings you want to configure (an old snapin may not support all the new settings of a new Client). ISSUE: ------------------- CLIENT32.NLM ------------------- TID 10053226 - Fixed a problem where dozens of extra IP server connections were being made. TID 10026892 - Reception of broadcast message causes unnecessary licensed connections. TID 10053377 - Unable to share worksheets in Excel 97. TID 10053376 - Microsoft Project crashes in Windows 95. TID 10054962 - Cannot print to an NT Print Share if Share name is greater than 16 characters long. - Dell Latitude CPi laptop hangs. TID 10054835 - Client unable to connect appropriately over TCP/IP when "NCP OVER UDP" is disabled on server. - First Resort Software application experiences random data corruption. - Client 3.21 will fail out with an illegal operation during a batch file copy of oracle information from one server volume to another. The batch file will fail at different points during the copying process to 15 different servers. - Problem with multiple open of stream files by the same client. ---------------------- IPHLPR.NLM ---------------------- TID 10053626 - IP Costing changes for the NDS Name Space Provider (NSP) to include best consecutive subnet matching bits costing. TID 10055661 - Novell Client only sends a DNS request through one adapter (either the dial-up adapter or the Nortel VPN adapter), and the dns request is sent only to the ISP's dns server and not the internal DNS server as desired. - Problem with not being able to locate a configured DNS Directory Agent from a Windows 98 laptop. - 3.21 or 3.3 upgrade with IP & IPX causes blue screen on bootup. ---------------------- IPX.NLM ---------------------- - Fix for Novell Client to work with Revelation Software ------------------- LGNW9532.DLL ------------------- TID 10051655 - Unable to synchronize Win98 password with Novell password with Novell Client32 client. ----------------------- NIOS.VXD ----------------------- - Novell client for Win95 & XYWrite Application needs additional key pressed to execute Macro. ---------------------- NOVELLNP.DLL ---------------------- TID 10051450 - Client causes GPF in Safe Mode -------------------- NWGROUP.DLL -------------------- TID 10053552 - After upgrading the client to 3.21, the config.pol does not download to the workstation. ----------------------- NWIP95.NLM ----------------------- - When nwip 'nearest nwip server' is down, no network found. Slow boot when disconnected from network. ---------------------- NWRECMSG.EXE ---------------------- - When selecting in the Client Properties, Advanced Settings Parameter Groups: Trouble Shooting / Message Timeout, and setting up a number of Ticks to close the messages from the screen, the messages don't get closed automatically and need to be closed manually. --------------------- NWSETUP.DLL --------------------- TID 2948952 & TID 10054679 - Removing logical NIC Causes GPF. - GPF in nwsetup.dll when installing Nortel VPN client 2.5. The speculation on the Nortel side is that PPTP is being "unbound" and creating the GPF. ----------------------- SETUP.EXE ----------------------- - WS2SETUP.EXE in the german (or english) w95 client doesn`t get upgraded when installing a later english Novell client. ----------------------- SRVLOC.NLM ----------------------- - DA not discovered because SLP Provider only resolves DNS name for DA at initialization. - Problem with not being able to locate a configured DNS Directory Agent from a Windows 98 laptop. - Workstation hang on Windows 98 box with Dell Latitude CPi laptop. TID 10055661 - SLP current has a 5 minute global timer to attempt to recontact static DA addresses that have been marked "NORSP". Because of a problem with the Nortel VPN client, this is causing DAs to remain NORSP for up to 5 minutes and all attempts to login fail because of the down state of the DA (can't resolve server names). Need to add ability to control retry interval for NORSP DAs. ----------------------- TRANNTA.NLM ----------------------- - DA not discovered because SLP Provider only resolves DNS name for DA at initialization. - Problem with not being able to locate a configured DNS Directory Agent from a Windows 98 laptop. ----------------------- WM95.EXE ----------------------- TID 10050409 - Login process hangs on WM95SAST.EXE. "WM95SAST caused an invalid page fault in module kernel32.dll at 015f:bff7b983" ----------------------- WMPRT95.DLL ----------------------- - WM re-distributes NDPS printer drivers although no change to configuration was made. - Fixes the issue of NDPS Printer Drivers being downloaded at nearly every login. The NDPS code now uses the Policy Package object timestamp to determine when to download the printer driver again instead of the NDPS Printer object timestamp. (The Broker was regularly updating the NDPS Printer object, thus resetting the timestamp.)
