No TrueType Fonts Available Using DeskJet Series Printers (99493)

SUMMARY

When you use a Hewlett-Packard (HP) DeskJet printer with Microsoft Works for Windows, TrueType fonts may not show in the font list for the following reasons:

Works for Windows, Version 3.0

  • Draft Quality Printing is selected.

Works for Windows, Version 2.x:

  • The resolution in Printer Setup is set below 300 dpi.
  • TrueType fonts are not enabled in the Windows Control Panel.
  • The printer driver does not support TrueType fonts.

To troubleshoot this problem, complete the following steps:

  1. To check the printer resolution, choose Printer Setup from the File menu in Works for Windows. Make sure that the resolution is set to 300 dpi. (Note: Drivers 2.0, 2.1, and 3.0 do not contain a dpi setting.)
  2. To check if TrueType fonts are enabled in the Windows Control Panel:

    1. From the Windows Main group, choose Control Panel.
    2. Choose the Fonts icon.
    3. Select the TrueType button.
    4. Make sure the Enable TrueType Fonts check box is selected.
  3. To check the DeskJet driver version:

    1. From the File menu in Works, choose Printer Setup.
    2. Choose the Setup button, if necessary.
    3. Choose the About button. This will display a dialog box containing the driver version. DeskJet drivers that do not support TrueType fonts include the following:

      • HP DeskJet Family version A.03.10
      • HP DeskJet 500 Scalable version 1.0
    4. If the DeskJet driver version does not support TrueType fonts, update the driver to the HP DeskJet (model) version 1.1 driver provided with Windows 3.1, or to the DeskJet Series version 3.0 provided by Hewlett-Packard.
