This article was previously published under Q99444 SUMMARY
You have a choice between Text (DOS) or Text (Windows) when saving or opening a text file in Works for Windows.
The difference between these two choices is the manner in which they treat mapping of extended characters (characters 128 through 255) between ANSI and the MS-DOS CodePage.
"Text for DOS" uses the ASCII code page for extended symbols and "Text for Windows" uses the ANSI code page.
To obtain the best functionality when exchanging unformatted text with MS-DOS-based applications, it is best to open and save text using the Text (DOS) option. If you are exchanging unformatted text with Windows-based applications, it is best to open and save text using the Text (Windows) option.
