SUMMARY

To boot a 3COM Ethernet link (3C501) with an Etherstart RPL ROM off a LAN Manager 2.1 RPL server, you need to obtain a new RPLNET2.DLL, a new ELNK.DOS driver from Microsoft, and make some changes to PROTOCOL.INI and DOSBB.CNF as outlined below.

Although there are problems with this configuration, you can make it functional by doing the following:

Get a new RPLNET2.DLL from Microsoft.
In PROTOCOL.INI, set Dmachannel=none in the [elnk_nif] section.
Give the ELNK.DOS 2K of extra memory by editing the line of DOSBB.CNF (or OS213BB.CNF or oS2121BB.CNF) that says:

   drv bblock\ndis\elnk.dos ~ ~ ~
```
to
```
   drv bblock\ndis\elnk.dos ~ 2 ~
```
Get a patched version of the ELNK.DOS driver from Microsoft.
