SUMMARY

When attempting to create a shared installation of Works for Windows on a diskless workstation (using the SETUP /n option), you may get an immediate "Out of Memory or Disk Space" error message.

MORE INFORMATION

If Windows is run from a network directory that is mapped as a root drive, you will receive the above error message. For example, on a Novell network (assuming the user is GUEST)

F: is mapped to SYS:
U: is mapped to SYS:\USER\GUEST (WIN.COM is located here)

where SYS: is the server volume name.

If the user is running a shared installation of Windows directly from drive U (that is, the local Windows files are in U:\), the system will believe that Windows is in a root directory and return the above error message.

To view the mappings of all your current local and network drives, type "map" (without the quotation marks) and press ENTER.

Workaround

Using the above example, running Windows from F:\USER\GUEST instead of from drive U corrects the problem. If there isn't a drive already mapped directly to SYS:, then it will be necessary to create one. This can be accomplished by adding the following line to the system login script (Novell network)
   map x:=SYS:

where x is any unused drive letter and SYS is the actual volume name. After the new drive map has been created, proceed through the directories normally to the user's directory.
