Appstart Crashes Lotus 1-2-3 for Windows (99186)

When you start to install Lotus 1-2-3 for Windows version 1.1 on a server
through APPSTART.EXE, in a system configured with Microsoft LAN Manager
version 2.2 and Windows for Workgroups, you receive these error messages:
- MAIN123W caused segment load failure in module L1WENV.DLL AT 0036:0583.
- Cannot find L1WNET.DLL
- PROGMAN caused a general protection fault in module MAIN123W.EXE AT
0001:039A.
- Illegal SMB received. The SMB is the data.
You can load the program, but after receiving these error messages you
cannot exit it. If you load the program without using APPSTART.EXE the
errors do not occur.
CAUSE
Under investigation.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in LAN Manager version 2.2.

Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
