SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to insert a drawing into a Works Word Processor
document from Microsoft Draw, you may receive the following error
message
ED caused a General Protection Fault in module <>
where <> is the particular module mentioned in the error message,
and ED is the name of an embedded Draw module. This error message
indicates that the Draw files may be corrupted.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem use one of the following methods.
Works for Windows 3.0
- From the Works for Windows Group, choose the Works Setup icon.
- Choose the Add/Remove button.
- Clear the selection of the Accessories box. Choose Continue. This
removes all of the Draw files.
- Select the Works Setup icon again and choose the Add/Remove button.
- Select the Accessories box. Choose Continue. This reinstalls
the Draw files from the Works disks.
- Insert the disk requested by Setup. Choose OK.
Note: You need to uninstall the files in Works for Windows 3.0 before
reinstalling them from the disks. Simply deleting the files from the
system and reinstalling will not work correctly.
Most setup applications check for the presence of system/driver files
before replacing them. If a corrupted file is present with the right date,
setup may not replace it with the uncorrupted version.
Works 3.0 uses files located in more than one location on the system. The
bulk of the files are located in the application's path (c:\msworks),
however, there are several system files used for OLE that are located in
the windows and windows\system directories.
While it is possible to manually locate each of these files and delete
them, it is generally safer and easier to run the Works Setup program and
UnInstall the application.
Works for Windows 2.x
- Delete the following Draw files from the C:\WINDOWS\MSAPPS\MSDRAW
directory:
msdraw.exe
msdraw.hlp
geni.pal
86colors.pal
47colors.pal
17grays.pal
16colors.pal
- Reinstall the Microsoft Draw module (you can do this by running a
custom installation of Works for Windows).
