SUMMARY

This article provides LAN Manager (NetBEUI) packet information you can use to filter network traffic. For instance, if you want to filter NetBEUI network traffic from the rest of your wide area network, you can do so by entering this information into your network bridges.

The information you need is usually in the form of a four-digit packet type and is dependent on the transport protocol in use. NetBEUI protocol uses 802.3 frames, which do not contain an Ethertype (this field is the length field instead). However, if the bridges can filter on SAPs, they can filter for SAP F0 (NetBIOS).

NetBEUI always uses F0 as the 802.3 LLC DSAP and SSAP. Other protocols use a different DSAP and SSAP (TPC LLC SNAP header DSAP/SSAP = AA, 3Com XNS=80, Novell=E0, and so on).
