SUMMARY
When attempting to load a Microsoft Word for Windows 2.0 document into
Microsoft Works for Windows, you may receive the following error
message:
Not enough memory to complete operation
After choosing the OK button, the following error message appears:
Not enough memory to convert file
The error can be caused by the number of paragraphs formatted with
custom-set tabs when the document was created in Word for Windows. If
the document contains at least 485 paragraphs that have one or more
custom tabs, the document will not load into Works for Windows,
regardless of the document size or the available memory.
NOTE: This problem is corrected in Works for Windows version 3.0.
MORE INFORMATION
The key is the number of paragraphs with custom-set tabs, as shown on
the ruler. Neither the number of tab characters nor the number of
custom tabs set in any one paragraph will affect the outcome.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Works for Windows
versions 2.0 and 2.0a. We are researching this problem and will post
new information here in Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes
available.
