SUMMARY

When you open a database, Microsoft Access remembers the database name and displays the name in the Recent File List on the File menu. The four most recently opened databases are displayed on the list. However, if you delete a database on the list, the Recent File List continues to show it as a valid database even though it does not actually exist. When you open other databases, the list is updated, and the deleted file eventually disappears from the list.

If you do not want to have the Recent File List appear on the File menu, follow these steps.

NOTE: The procedure listed below should be followed only if your Microsoft Access database is unsecured.

In Microsoft Access 7.0 and 97

Open Windows Explorer and select Find/Files or folders under the Tools menu. Search for the file Wrkgadm.exe. Run the Wrkgadm file after it is located. Create a new System.mdw file by stepping through the screens. Now when you open up Microsoft Access and click the File menu, the file list is gone.

In Microsoft Access Versions 1.x and 2.0

If you are running Microsoft Access under Windows 3.1, click the MS Access Workgroup Administrator to create a new System.mda. If you are running Microsoft Access under Windows 95, follow the procedure for Microsoft Access 95 and 97 above, but note that you are creating a new System.mda file rather than a new System.mdw file.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior


  1. Create a new database.
  2. Close the database.
  3. Delete the database using Windows Explorer in Windows 95 or File Manager in Windows 3.1.
  4. Open the File menu in Microsoft Access. Note that the database you just deleted is still in the File menu list.
