SUMMARY

LAN Manager 2.1 offers several methods to disable message logging to the MESSAGES.LOG file. This in no way affects the ability to receive pop-up messages at the workstation.

MORE INFORMATION

The most elegant way to permanently disable message logging is to place the following line in the [messenger] section of the LANMAN.INI file:
   LOGFILE = NUL:

Another method is to issue the NET LOG command at the command prompt, or place the command in the AUTOEXEC.BAT or STARTUP.CMD file. The syntax is as follows:
   net log [[drive:path] filename | devicename] /off

This method works on OS/2 and MS-DOS workstations.

You can also temporarily disable logging during the net session. From the command prompt, enter the NET command, and from the Message menu, choose "Log messages to file". Then select the "Pause message logging" option.
