Windows 3.1 does not detect device contention on parallel devices in a default installation. If this feature is required in your installation, download the file VPD386.EXE from the Internet.

In Windows 3.0 and 3.0a, VPD.386 is used for parallel device contention. In Windows for Workgroups 3.1, VPD.386 (included with the product) allows the detection of parallel device contention.
