Error message when you try to open Encarta after you perform a complete installation of Works Suite 2006: "Macromedia Flash Player 7.0 is not installed" (925560)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open Microsoft Encarta after you perform a complete installation of Microsoft Works Suite 2006, you receive the following error message:
Macromedia Flash Player 7.0 is not installed on your computer. Go to Add or Remove Programs, and click Change to start the installation of the wizard. Choose Repair and follow the on-screen instructions.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the MS06-020 (913433) security fix is installed on a Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based computer before you install Works Suite 2006. The MS06-020 security fix prevents Macromedia Flash Player from installing. Macromedia Flash Player is part of the Works Suite 2006 installation.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, install the most recent version of Flash Player.

Note On April 18, 2005 Adobe Systems Incorporated acquired Macromedia. Macromedia Flash Player was superseded by Adobe Flash Player.

To install the most recent version of Flash Player, follow these steps:
  1. Start Microsoft Windows Explorer.
  2. Open the following folder:

    drive:\Windows\System32\Macromed

    In this path, drive is the drive on which Microsoft Windows is installed.
  3. Right-click the Macromed folder, and then click Delete.
  4. When you receive the "Confirm Folder Delete" message, click Yes.
  5. Restart the computer.
  6. Obtain and then install the Adobe Flash Player. To do this, visit the following Adobe Web site: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support.
