Live Vision camera together with an Xbox 360 console.
The Xbox
Live Vision camera is designed to work with an Xbox 360 console and a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer that is running Windows XP SP2 (or later versions) and has a USB 2.0 port.

To use an Xbox
Live Vision camera on your Xbox 360 console, obtain the latest Xbox 360 system software. To do this, sign in to Xbox
Live, consent to the download agreement, and then download the software to your console.

Connect the Xbox Live Vision camera to an Xbox 360 console
- Turn on the Xbox 360 console without a disc in the tray. When the Xbox Dashboard appears, connect the camera cable to one of the controller ports on the console. The Ring of Light (RoL) on the camera will blink to indicate that the camera is connected.
- Put the camera on a stable surface, and then point the camera toward you or toward the object that you want to capture. The RoL on the camera will illuminate when the camera is capturing video.
- To receive audio, connect an Xbox 360 Headset. For more information about how to connect an Xbox 360 Headset, see the manual for the headset.
Test and configure camera
- Connect the camera to the Xbox 360 console.
- In the System section of the Xbox Dashboard, select Xbox Live Vision.
- If no selection for Xbox Live Vision exists, update the software for your Xbox 360 console. To do this, sign in to Xbox Live, consent to the download agreement, and then download the software to your console.
Note When the camera light is illuminated, the camera is active.
Use the Xbox Live Vision camera
Video chat
If you are an Xbox
Live Gold subscriber, video chat lets you participate in a live video and audio experience with anyone from your friends list who also has an Xbox
Live Vision camera.
To start a video chat session, follow these steps:
- Open your friends list, and then select a friend.
- Select Invite to Video Chat.
Note If the Invite to Video Chat option is unavailable, your friend does not have a camera connected to the console. - The video chat session will start after your friend accepts the video chat invitation.
Video chat options and controls
After you start a video chat session, you can select from the following options:
- View Gamer Profile
View the gamer card of the friend with whom you are chatting. - Zoom in
Adjust the zoom for the camera. - Pause Video Chat
Switch between live and pause modes. When you pause the video chat session, your camera will not send video. - Change voice settings
Adjust audio volume levels, mute the microphone, and select the voice output. - You can also change the video style or obtain your friends attention by using the following bumper or trigger buttons on your Xbox 360 Controller:
- The left and right bumper buttons control the video effect
- The right trigger sends a small rumble effect to your friend's controller
- The left trigger sends a large rumble effect to your friend's controller
Attach a picture to a message
- Open your friends list, select a friend, and then select Send Message.
- Select Add Picture.
- Select Zoom in to adjust the zoom, or select Take Picture to capture a snapshot.
- Select Accept Picture.
Note You can add effects or take another picture at this point. - Select Send

In-game picture or video support
Some games let you use full video, face-in-game, or gesture based controls. For more information about how to use your camera with these features, see your game manual.
Personal gamer pictures
You can set up a personal gamer picture for your gamer card. Personal gamer pictures are only available to your friends in your friends list.
To capture a personal picture for your gamer card, follow these steps:
- In the Dashboard, select your gamer card.
- Select Edit Gamer Profile, and then select Gamer Picture.
- Select Take Personal Picture.
- Select Zoom in to adjust the zoom, or select Take Picture to capture a snapshot.
- Select Accept Picture.
Note You can add effects or take another picture at this point.
Note You cannot view personal gamer pictures on Xbox.com.
Help protect users from unwanted content
We consider video and pictures that you create with the Xbox
Live Vision camera user created content. Family and Privacy Settings in the Dashboard control this kind of content.
Configure Family Settings to help restrict your child's communications settings
To configure your child's communications settings for Xbox
Live, follow these steps:
- In the System section of the Xbox Dashboard, select Family Settings.
Note If you are using the Xbox 360 system for the first time, you can select Family Settings on the initial Setup Complete screen.
- Select Xbox Live Controls, and then sign in by using the password for your Windows Live ID.
- Select Privacy and Friends, and then select Communications.
- Select one of the following settings:
- Everyone
Select Everyone to allow your child to communicate with anyone on Xbox Live. - Friends Only
Select Friends Only to allow your child to communicate only with people on his or her friends list. - Blocked
Select Blocked to block everyone from communicating with your child.
Note Your child will still receive new friend requests.
Configure Privacy Settings to help restrict your profile's communication settings
- From the Xbox Dashboard or from the Xbox Guide, select your gamer card.
- Select Edit Gamer Profile.
- Select Privacy Settings, and then confirm that you want to exit your current session.
- Select Communications.
- Select one of the following settings:
- Everyone
Select Everyone so that you can communicate with anyone on Xbox Live. - Friends Only
Select Friends Only so that you can only communicate with people on your friends list. - Blocked
Select Blocked to block everyone from communicating with you.

Mute individual gamers
To mute the audio and the video of an individual gamer during gameplay, follow these steps:
- During gameplay, select the gamer card of the gamer that you want to mute.
- Select Mute to block communication with this player.

Clean the Xbox Live Vision camera
To clean the camera, use a dry or a slightly water-damp cloth only. Cleaning solutions or cleaning the connectors may damage your camera. To clean the camera lens, use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth or lens paper only.
