Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 Health Monitor notifications appear in the English language (924938)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 Premium Edition
- Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition
SYMPTOMSConsider the following scenario. You install Microsoft Windows Small Business Server (Windows SBS) 2003 R2 on a computer that does not use the English language. Then, you view the Health Monitor notifications by using one of the following methods: - You click Monitoring and Reporting in the Server Management MMC snap-in to view the notifications section.
- You receive a notification in an e-mail message.
- You open Health Monitor in Administrative Tools.
In this scenario, the notification text may appear in the English language
and not in the language that you specified when you installed Windows SBS 2003 R2. RESOLUTIONMicrosoft is researching this problem and a hotfix is scheduled to be released soon.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, you must change the Sbs_inst.mof file. To do this, follow these steps. Note These steps overwrite the existing English notifications with the localized versions.
- Insert disk 3 of the Windows SBS 2003 installation CD-ROM set.
- In Windows Explorer, locate the \SBS\Monitor folder, right-click sbs_inst.mof, and then click Open.
- In the Windows dialog box, click Select the program from a list, and then click OK.
- In the Open With dialog box, select Notepad from the list, and then click OK.
- Insert the R2 Technologies CD-ROM.
- In Windows Explorer, right-click Sbs_R2Upgrade.mof, and then click Open.
- In the Open With dialog box, select Notepad from the list, and then click OK.
- Copy the contents of the Sbs_R2Upgrade.mof file.
- Replace the contents of the Sbs_inst.mof file that is open in the other instance of Notepad with the contents that you copied from the Sbs_R2Upgrade.mof file.
Note Replace all the contents except for the first line that starts with pragma. - In the Sbs_inst.mof instance of Notepad, click File, and then click Save As.
- In the Save As dialog box, locate the Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Monitoring folder, and then click Save.
- In the Save As dialog box, click Yes to overwrite the existing Sbs_inst.mof file.
- Click Start, click Run, in the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
- Type the following command, and then press ENTER to store the localized notifications in the Health Monitor namespace:
mofcomp "%sbsprogramdir%\monitoring\sbs_inst.mof" Note Windows SBS 2003 R2 contains two new notifications in the Sbs_R2Upgrade.mof file for the following: - Update Services
- MSSQL$WSUS
These notifications remain in the English language because they have not been localized. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
