Windows PowerShell is a new command line shell and scripting language. Windows PowerShell can be used for system administration and to manage applications that run on Windows. Windows PowerShell helps accelerate automation and is easy for organizations to learn and use so that they can achieve better productivity and control.
The Windows PowerShell 1.0 RC2 MUI update package is only supported on an English (United States) language-based operating system. Before you install the Windows PowerShell 1.0 RC2 MUI update package, you must install the Windows PowerShell 1.0 RC2 English update package.

Windows PowerShell 1.0 RC2 English update package for Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 and for Windows XP Service Pack 2
To enable the functionality that is provided by the Windows PowerShell 1.0 RC2 MUI update package, you must install the Windows MUI package.
For a non-English (United States) language-based operating system, you must install the language-specific version of Windows PowerShell. You can only run the language-specific version of Windows PowerShell or English (United States) version of Windows PowerShell on a non-English (United States) language-based operating system. The Windows PowerShell 1.0 RC2 MUI update package is not supported on a non-English (United States) language-based operating system.
Windows PowerShell 1.0 RC2 uses Package Installer technology for Windows XP and for Windows Server 2003-based installations. The location of the Windows PowerShell installation folder is not configurable. For computers that are running the x86-based version of Windows, Windows PowerShell is installed in the following folder:
%windir%\system32\WindowsPowerShell\V1.0
By default, 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows PowerShell are installed for computers that are running the x64-based version of Windows.
The 64-bit version of Windows PowerShell is installed in the following folder:
%windir%\system32\WindowsPowerShell\V1.0
The 32-bit version of Windows PowerShell is installed in the following folder:
%windir%\Syswow64\WindowsPowerShell\V1.0
Note The
%windir% placeholder represents the path of the Windows system folder. Typically, C:\Windows is the path of the Windows system folder.

Prerequisites
To install this update, you must have the original release version of Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (version 2.0.50727) installed on your computer.
Restart requirement
You do not have to restart your computer after you apply this update.
Note You may have to restart your computer after you apply this update if files that are being installed or uninstalled are being used. If these files are being used, a restart prompt appears unless the installer is running in unattended mode. This scenario occurs only when the same version of Windows PowerShell is installed on the computer and is not completely uninstalled.
Update replacement information
This update does not replace any other updates.
Registry information
You cannot install the Windows PowerShell 1.0 RC2 MUI update package if Windows PowerShell 1.0 RC2 is installed on the computer. To determine whether Windows PowerShell 1.0 is installed on the computer, view the following registry entry value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Powershell\1\Install
If the
Install registry entry is set to
1, Windows PowerShell 1.0 is installed on the computer. If the
Install registry entry is not present, Windows PowerShell 1.0 is not installed on the computer.
Note If Windows PowerShell 1.0 is installed on the computer, you must remove Windows PowerShell 1.0 before you install the Windows PowerShell 1.0 MUI update package. To remove Windows PowerShell 1.0, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
- Click to select the Show updates check box.
- In the Currently installed programs list, click Windows PowerShell(TM) 1.0, and then click Remove.
- Follow the instructions to remove the Windows PowerShell(TM) 1.0 program.
