Description of the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 post-Service Pack 2 hotfix package: August 17, 2006 (924298)

INTRODUCTION

Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

You receive a "(0x80030109 - The docfile has been corrupted)" error message or an "IFilter::GetChunk returned 0x80041703" error message

You experience one or both of the following symptoms in SharePoint Portal Server 2003:

You add a Microsoft Excel workbook to a document library on the portal site. After you do this, the content index is not updated as expected. The following error message is logged in the gatherer log:
DateTime Add URL
The address could not be found, (0x80030109 - The docfile has been corrupted.)
Additionally, when users search the portal site for the Excel workbook, the workbook is not returned in the search results.
You use the Filtdump.exe command-line tool to view the appearance of an Excel workbook when it is filtered. However, you receive the following error message:
Error 0x80030109 from IFilter::GetText.
IFilter::GetChunk returned 0x80041703.

This problem occurs if the Excel workbook contains a worksheet that has all the following characteristics:

The worksheet contains a chart object.
The worksheet contains no values in any of its cells.
The worksheet is protected with a password.

In this scenario, the Office IFilter in SharePoint Portal Server 2003 incorrectly processes the Excel workbook.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article.
