RAPID PUBLISHING ARTICLES PROVIDE INFORMATION IN RESPONSE TO EMERGING OR UNIQUE TOPICS, AND MAY BE UPDATED AS NEW INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE. SYMPTOMSMigration of email server iPlanet (LDAP and IMAP4 compliant mail system) to
Exchange Server 2003 fails.
Using the Migration Wizard option "Migrate from Internet Directory (LDAP via
ADSI)"
After wizard completes no mail is migrated to Exchange and no errors are logged.
CAUSEFunction and procedures for the "Migrate from Internet Directory LDAP via ADSI" and
"Migrate from Internet Mail (IMAP)" options in the migration wizard are not clearly
and simply documented.
RESOLUTIONThere is some confusion over the purpose of the Migration Wizard option for
"Migrate from Internet Directory (LDAP via ADSI)" this
option exports user information only (LDAP attributes) from an LDAP compliant
server and can import that information into Active Directory via ADSI.
Unlike the product specific options for Notes or GroupWise the "Internet Directory"
and "Internet Mail" options are very generic solutions. This leads to more
limitations then exist with Notes or GroupWise migrations.
While the option screens that the "Migrate from Internet Directory (LDAP via ADSI)"
wizard displays give the impression that it will migrate the mail items also (for
example you can select "one-step" migration and a destination Exchange server and
store) it does not move any mail items.
This is because the password for the user's IMAP mail box is not extracted via the
LDAP query. The passwords must be added to the imapusr.csv file manually before
running the next wizard option "Migrate from Internet Mail (IMAP4)" without the
password the mail boxes can not be accessed. The basic imapusr.csv file is created
for you in the working directory during the one-step or two-step process of the
"Migrate from Internet Directory (LDAP via ADSI)" but the passwords must be
added.
