RAPID PUBLISHING ARTICLES PROVIDE INFORMATION IN RESPONSE TO EMERGING OR UNIQUE TOPICS, AND MAY BE UPDATED AS NEW INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE. SYMPTOMSWith Trend Micro 6.2 installed on the Bridgehead servers and it is set to strip out
.ZIP attachments and replace it with text file that states that type of attachment
is not allowed. The mail works fine and delivers if the formatting if it is HTML
or Plain Text. If the format is Rich Text Format (RTF) the .ZIP is stripped out,
the text file is put in its place, but then the mail will not deliver and goes into
retrying every 5 minutes (or whatever is set for the default retry limit).
ENVIRONMENT: Exchange 2003 sp1 on Windows 2003 sp1. The Bridgehead server had
Trend Micro 6.2 installed on it.
CAUSETrend Micro 6.2 is set to strip .ZIP attachments out of messages and
replace it with a .TXT file stating the policy and that the .ZIP was removed. This
works for most formats, but for Rich Text Formatting (RTF) it ended up putting a
piece of mail back into queue without the last CR LF meaning the mail would never
deliver.
RESOLUTIONDisabling Trend allows the RTF mail to deliver.MORE INFORMATIONNetmon shows the mail try to send but never finish and the
connection times out. This is because the message never finishes as one of the CR
LF is missing from the end of the message.
