SYMPTOMS

You cannot uninstall Windows Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2. You cannot find an entry for Internet Explorer 7 in the Add or Remove Programs item in Control Panel. Additionally, the uninstallation folder for Internet Explorer 7 is missing. You expect to find the uninstallation folder in the following location:

C:\Windows\$NtUninstallie7beta2$

CAUSE

This problem may occur after you use a hard disk utility program that recovers hard disk space by deleting temporary files and folders. The program may have deleted the uninstallation folder that contains all the original Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0 files and registry keys. When this folder is missing, you cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 7 by using Add or Remove Programs. Additionally, you cannot restore Internet Explorer 6. You cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 7 by deleting this folder.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Uninstall Tool to remove Internet Explorer 7 from the computer.

Warning Use the Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Uninstall Tool only if the computer and Internet Explorer 7 match the following requirements. Serious problems might occur if you use this tool on a computer that does not meet these requirements. These problems might require that you reinstall the Windows operating system.

To use the Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Uninstall Tool, the computer and Internet Explorer 7 must meet the following requirements:
  • The version of Internet Explorer 7 that is installed is 7.0.5346.5. To determine which version of Internet Explorer 7 is on your computer, press ALT, and then click About Internet Explorer in the Help menu.
  • The path of the Windows folder is C:\Windows.
  • The path of the Program Files folder is C:\Program Files.
  • You are running Windows XP on a 32-bit computer.
  • Internet Explorer 7 is not listed in Add or Remove Programs.
If the computer and Internet Explorer 7 meet these requirements, you can use the Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Uninstall Tool to remove Internet Explorer 7. You can download this tool from the Microsoft Download Center.
