Error message when you use the System.Data.OleDb namespace in the .NET Framework 2.0 to retrieve data from the OLE DB Provider for SQL Server: "ICommandText interface is not supported by the 'SQLOLEDB' provider" (923562)

BUG #: 1138 (SQL Hotfix) SYMPTOMS
You use the System.Data.OleDb namespace in the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 class library to retrieve data from Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server (SQLOLEDB). However, the OledbCommand.ExecuteReader method may intermittently throw an exception in this situation. When this problem occurs, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
System.InvalidOperationException: The ICommandText interface is not supported by the 'SQLOLEDB' provider. Use CommandType.TableDirect instead.
RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next .NET Framework 2.0 service pack that contains this hotfix. To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix. WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use a native managed provider for the database backend to which you are connecting. For example, use the System.Data.SQLClient namespace when you connect to Microsoft SQL Server.
