An NDR message occurs when a user tries to send an e-mail message through a connector in Exchange Server 2003: "You do not have permission to send to this recipient" (923495)

SYMPTOMS

When a user tries to send an e-mail message through a connector in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, the user receives a non-delivery report (NDR). This NDR contains the following message: You do not have permission to send to this recipient.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • Delivery restrictions have been set on a connector in Exchange Server 2003.
  • The affected user belongs to a group that has been authorized to use the connector.
  • The distinguished name (DN) of the affected user contains one or more of the following characters:
    • An asterisk (*)
    • An opening parenthesis (()
    • A closing parenthesis ())
    • A backslash (\)

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Restart requirement

You must stop the Wmiprvse.exe service to apply this hotfix. You may start the Wmiprvse.exe service after the hotfix is installed.
