INTRODUCTION

This article describes the Microsoft Office XP Proofing Tools and the Microsoft Office XP Multilingual User Interface (MUI) Pack issue that is fixed in the German edition of the Office XP Proofing Tools hotfix package that is dated August 4, 2006.

Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • On August 1, 2006, the new German Spelling Reform rules go into effect for Germany, Switzerland and Austria. These rules were proposed by the Council for German Orthography on August 1, 2005, were adopted by the Standing Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) on March 2, 2006, and were confirmed by the Council of Minister Presidents on March 30, 2006.

    In compliance with these new rules, a new German spelling checker for Microsoft Office XP was created and is available for download from Microsoft. This update contains a new German spelling checker lexicon that is in compliance with the new German Spelling Reform rules.

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

To download and to install the client update, follow these steps:
  1. Click Save to save the OfficeXP-KB923347-DEU.exe file to the selected folder.
  2. In Microsoft Windows Explorer, double-click OfficeXP-KB923347-DEU.exe.
  3. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
  4. In the Type the location where you want to place the extracted files box, type c:\923347, and then click OK.
  5. Click Yes when you are prompted to create the folder.
  6. In Windows Explorer, locate the C:\923347 folder, and then double-click Mssp3ge.msp.
  7. Follow the steps to install the update.
Note After you install the update, you cannot remove it. To revert to a previous installation that does not include the update, you must remove Office XP Proofing Tools and the Office XP MUI Pack. Then, install Office XP Proofing Tools and the Office XP MUI Pack again from the original CD.

If you installed Office XP Proofing Tools and the Office XP MUI Pack from a server location, the server administrator must update the server location with the administrative public update. The administrator must then deploy that update to your computer.

If you are the server administrator, follow these steps:
  1. Click Save to save the OfficeXP-KB923347-DEU.exe file to the selected folder.
  2. In Windows Explorer, double-click OfficeXP-KB923347-DEU.exe.
  3. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
  4. In the Type the location where you want to place the extracted files box, type c:\923347, and then click OK.
  5. Click Yes when you are prompted to create the folder.
  6. In Windows Explorer, locate the c:\923347 folder, and then double-click Mssp3ge_Readme.txt. Follow the steps in the Mssp3ge_Readme.txt file to install and to deploy the hotfix.

  • The optimized version of this hotfix is a post-Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 3 hotfix. To install the hotfix, you must have Office XP Service Pack 3 installed.   • The full-file version of this hotfix is also the administrative version of this hotfix. The full-file version of this hotfix is a post-Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 3 hotfix. To install the hotfix, you must have Office XP Service Pack 3 installed.

Restart information

You do not have to restart your computer after you apply this hotfix.

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix is not replaced by any later hotfix.

To use one of the hotfixes in this package, you do not have to make any changes to the registry.
