The PS/2 mouse may not work after you upgrade the operating system to Windows XP (922378)

SYMPTOMSAfter you upgrade the operating system to Microsoft Windows XP, the PS/2 mouse may not work when Windows is running in normal mode. The mouse works when Windows is running in safe mode.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, follow these steps: - Start the computer in safe mode. To start the computer in safe mode, follow these steps:
- Restart the computer.
Note If the computer is configured to use multiple operating systems, use the arrow keys to select the operating system that you want, and then press ENTER. - Press F8 when you see the Startup menu.
- Use the arrow keys to select a Safe mode option, and then press ENTER.
Note The NUM LOCK functionality must be turned off for the arrow keys to work on the numeric keypad.
- Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
- In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
- Locate and then click PS/2 Compatible Mouse.
Note Substitute PS/2 Compatible Mouse with the PS/2 compatible mouse device that is listed. - On the Action menu, click Properties.
- In the Properties dialog box for the device, click the Advanced Settings tab.
- Click to clear the Fast Initialization check box, and then click OK.
- Restart the computer in normal mode.
