You cannot run calculations in Excel after exporting reports from Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting (922102)

SYMPTOMS

You export reports from Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting to Microsoft Excel. Then, you enter calculations in a cell in Excel. When you do this, Excel does not run the calculations that you entered. Instead, Excel displays the text of the calculations.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the format of the cell in which you entered calculations is not set to a numeric value.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, correctly format the cell in which you want to enter calculations. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In Excel, right-click the cell in which you want to enter calculations. Then, click Format Cells.
  2. On the Number tab, select a category that accepts number formats. For example, you can select Number or Currency.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Enter the calculations into the cell that you just formatted.

    Note Excel will run the calculations.

  1. In Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting, point to Company and Financial on the Reports menu, and then click Trial Balance.
  2. On the toolbar, click Export to Excel.
  3. In Excel, enter your calculations in a cell, such as A8.
