An access violation occurs in the Msxml3.dll process when you try to exit Internet Explorer 6 on a Windows 2000-based computer (921985)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to exit Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, Internet Explorer stops responding. Additionally, an access violation occurs in the Msxml3.dll process, and you receive an "Access Violation (0xC0000005 exception)" error message.

This problem occurs even though you have installed the hotfix that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

835183 An access violation occurs in Msxml3.dll when you try to quit Internet Explorer 6

CAUSE

This problem occurs after you view a Web site that includes XML elements in its HTML code.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
