You cannot see 1024 x 768 and 1.3 MP video resolutions in the LifeCam Dashboard (921614)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft LifeCam VX-6000

SYMPTOMS

When you use a Microsoft LifeCam, you cannot see in the Microsoft LifeCam Dashboard in any video resolution that is higher than 800 x 600. Additionally, the highest available photo resolution is 1.3 Mega Pixels (MP).

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the LifeCam is connected through a USB 1.1 port. A USB 2.0 port is required for 1.3 MP video capture resolution and for higher resolution photos.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type devmgmt.msc, and then click OK.
  2. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  3. Examine the list of controllers for any controllers that have "USB 2.0" or "Enhanced USB" in their names.
If you have a USB 2.0 controller, you may have the LifeCam plugged into a 1.1 port or a 1.1 hub. Try connecting the LifeCam in to a port directly on the computer.

If you do not have a USB 2.0 controller, the LifeCam will work at this reduced resolution.
