FIX: You receive build error messages when you try to build a Windows Forms project after you change the code that describes a custom container control in Visual Studio 2005 (921535)

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You create a Microsoft Windows Forms project by using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005.
  • A Form control in the project contains one or more custom controls.
  • The custom controls are derived from a custom container control.
  • You change the code that describes the custom container control.
  • You try to build the project.
In this scenario, the custom controls that are derived from the custom container control are removed from the Form control. The project does not build successfully, and you receive build error messages.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 service pack that contains this hotfix.
