Error message when you try to install a COM+-based Windows Installer application proxy on a computer that is running Windows XP: "Error 1928. Error registering COM+ application" (921493)

SYMPTOMSWhen you try to install a Microsoft COM+-based Microsoft Windows Installer application proxy on a
computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP, the following messages may be logged in the Application log: Event Type: Information Event Source: MsiInstaller Event Category: None Event ID: 11707 Description: Product: ApplicationName (Application Proxy) -- Installation operation completed successfully. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://support.microsoft.com. Event Type: Error Event Source: MsiInstaller Event Category: None Event ID: 11928 Description: Product: ApplicationName (Application Proxy) -- Error 1928. Error registering COM+ Application. Contact your support personnel for more information.

Note In these messages, ApplicationName represents the COM+ application name. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, follow these steps for each COM+ application in which you experience this problem:
- Click Start, click Run,
type control panel, and
then click OK.
- Double-click Administrative Tools, and
then double-click Component Services.
- Expand Component Services,
expand Computers, expand My
Computer, and then expand COM+
Applications.
- Right-click the application name that matches the application name in the Application log messages, and
then click Delete.
- Reinstall the COM+-based Windows Installer application proxy on the computer that is
running Windows XP.
