Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2000 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2000 fix release.

SYMPTOMS

When you try to run a query on a linked server in Microsoft SQL Server 2000, you may receive the following error message:
Server: Msg 7347, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB' returned an unexpected data length for the fixed-length column '[LinkedServerName].[DBName].[OwnerName].[TebleOrViewName].ColumnName'. The expected data length is n, while the returned data length is m.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you can add the OPTION(HASH JOIN) query hint to the query.
