- Microsoft Windows Server Update Services
SYMPTOMSWhen you try to synchronize a Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) server to update files, the server does not synchronize. Additionally, the following event is logged in the system event log: Event ID : 364 Record Nr. : RecordNumber Category : Unknown Source : Windows Server Update Services Type : Error Generated : DateTime Written : DateTime Machine : ComputerName Message : Content file download failed. Reason: Access is denied. CAUSEThis behavior occurs if the users or groups with which the WSUS server synchronizes do not have permissions to the drive that is hosting the updates.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this behavior, make sure that the authenticated users, ASPNET, and the IIS_WPG groups have at least read permission to the drive on the WSUS server that is hosting the updates.
