You cannot create a replication group for data collection when the root of a drive is selected as the source on a Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer (920335)

SYMPTOMS

On a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer, you cannot create a replication group for data collection when the root of a drive is selected as the source. Additionally, the following event is logged:
Event ID: 4212 
Source: DFSR  
Type: Error  
Description:
The DFS Replication service could not replicate the replicated folder at local path E: because the staging path is invalid or inaccessible.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because objects in the Active Directory directory service are configured incorrectly. Specifically, these objects do not reflect the correct path of the Staging and Conflict directory.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.
