Windows Messenger 4.7 is listed as an optional software update on the Microsoft Update Web site even though you did not install Windows Messenger on a computer that is running Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs (920320)

SYMPTOMSConsider the following scenario:
- You run the Setup program to install Microsoft Windows
Fundamentals for Legacy PCs on a computer.
- You specify in the Setup program that you do not want to
install Microsoft Windows Messenger.
- After you install Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs on
the computer, you use Microsoft Internet Explorer to visit the Microsoft Update
Web site.
- You click Custom on the Welcome to
Microsoft Update Web page to view optional and high-priority updates that are
available for the computer.
In this scenario, when you click Software,
Optional, you see that Windows Messenger 4.7 appears
in the Optional software updates list. CAUSEThis issue occurs because the Microsoft Update Web site
lists Windows Messenger 4.7 as an optional software update even though Windows
Messenger is not installed on the computer. Additionally, Windows Messenger 4.7
will not install on the computer if you click to select the Windows
Messenger 4.7 check box in the Optional software
updates list.
