INTRODUCTION

This article describes the updates and enhancements that are included in Microsoft Windows Embedded for Point of Service (WEPOS) 1.1 and in Microsoft Point of Service (POS) for .NET 1.1.

MORE INFORMATION

The following updates are included in WEPOS 1.1 and in POS for .NET 1.1:
  • Support for version 1.9 of the Unified Point of Service (UPOS) industry specification

WEPOS 1.0 supports version 1.8 of the UPOS industry specification. WEPOS 1.1 supports version 1.9 of the UPOS specification. UPOS version 1.9 includes a new API to support device firmware updating. UPOS version 1.9 also includes enhancements to support the following features:
    • Page-mode printing
    • Credit authorization terminals (CATs) that use electronic money
    • Contrast adjustment for check scanners
    • "Live weight" reporting for scales
    • Updates to battery-powered devices
  • Expanded support for previous retail peripherals

In addition to the eight device classes that are supported in WEPOS 1.0, WEPOS 1.1 provides previous COM interoperability support for the following device classes:
    • Coin dispensers
    • Key locks
    • Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) devices
    • POS power devices
    • Scales
    • Signature capture devices
    • Tone indicator devices
  • Support for the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0

WEPOS 1.1 does not include the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. However, POS for .NET 1.1 service objects target the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, and these service objects are supported in this release. You can obtain and install the .NET Framework 2.0 separately.
The following updates are included in WEPOS 1.1:
  • Setup command file functionality

You can run a command file before and after setup. In this manner, you can add functionality to the setup process. For example, you can integrate more powerful disk partitioning functionality into the setup process.
  • Expanded support for mass storage devices in setup

The WEPOS 1.1 setup process includes fixes for errors that occur in WEPOS 1.0. These errors may occur when mass storage devices do not start correctly after a restart.
