The mouse pointer or pen pointer behavior is irregular in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 (920295)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005

SYMPTOMS

When you move a mouse or when you use a Tablet PC input stylus in Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, the pointer may briefly stop moving smoothly across the screen. It may then start to move in larger jumps across the screen. The pointer movement becomes jerky, and it may become difficult to click buttons or other items on the screen.

This behavior may reoccur every time that a new program starts and may last for 3 to 5 seconds. The behavior may also reoccur several times when the operating system is starting because several programs may then start automatically. These programs may include programs such as virus scanners, services, or notification area applications.

This behavior may be more likely to occur or may be more pronounced when you start certain intensive programs such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Pinball.
