The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 Standard Edition
SYMPTOMSYou may be unable to successfully install Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) on a computer that is running the OEM version of Microsoft Windows Small Business Server (SBS) 2003. Additionally, the WSUSCa_ yymmdd_ hhmm.log file may contain entries that resemble the following:osql.exe -S FCESBS01\WSUS -E -b -n -Q "USE SUSDB EXEC sp_grantlogin N'FCE\IWAM_DELL-OFV7446Y6N' EXEC sp_grantdbaccess N'FCE\IWAM_DELL-OFV7446Y6N' EXEC sp_addrolemember webService,N'FCE\IWAM_DELL-OFV7446Y6N'" Msg 15401, Level 11, State 1, Server FCESBS01\WSUS, Procedure sp_grantlogin, Line

Windows NT user or group 'FCE\IWAM_DELL-OFV7446Y6N' not found. Check the name
again. Msg 15401, Level 11, State 1, Server FCESBS01\WSUS, Procedure sp_grantdbaccess,
Line 99
Windows NT user or group 'FCE\IWAM_DELL-OFV7446Y6N' not found. Check the name
again. Msg 15410, Level 11, State 1, Server FCESBS01\WSUS, Procedure sp_addrolemember,
Line 66
User or role 'FCE\IWAM_DELL-OFV7446Y6N' does not exist in this database. Note The WSUSCa_ yymmdd_ hhmm.log file name represents the following: - yy is the last two digits of the year.
- mm is the month.
- dd is the day.
- hh is the hour.
- mm is the minute.
CAUSEThis problem occurs because the Mini-Setup program for the OEM version of Windows SBS adds the domain name to the Active Directory directory service in lowercase letters. The Microsoft SQL Server Database Engine (Windows) installation is run as a part of the WSUS installation. The SQL Server Database Engine installation tries to grant access to a security account. However, the installation does not find the domain to which the account belongs because the installation only searches for uppercase entries.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, follow these steps: - Download the WSUS installation package. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the computer that runs Windows SBS 2003, create a folder that is named WSUSFiles at the root of Drive:\.
Note Drive is the drive letter of the local hard disk. - Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
- Follow the instructions on the Web site to download the WSUS installation package.
- In the File Download dialog box, click Save.
- Save the WSUSSetup.exe file to the Drive:\WSUSFiles folder.
- Prepare the WSUS database. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type Drive:\WSUSFiles\WSUSSetup.exe /X, and then click OK.

cd Drive:\WSUSFiles\WMSDE - Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
Sqlrun03.msi InstanceName=WSUS BlankSAPwd=1 Reboot=ReallySuppress DisableNetworkProtocols=1 DisableAgentStartup=1 DisableThrottle=1 Notes- You can specify the drive letter by adding the DataDir=Path argument to the command line. Path
is the destination path.
- The command implies that the password for the WSUS database is blank.
However, during the WSUS installation, the password is randomly generated. You do not have to specify a password.
- The command is not case-sensitive.
- Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
- In the Services window, click MSSQL$WSUS.
Note If MSSQL$WSUS is not listed, repeat step 2h, and then click MSSQL$WSUS. - On the Action menu, click Start.
- On the File menu, click Exit.
- Install WSUS. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type Drive:\WSUSFiles\WSUSSetup.exe, and then click OK.
- In the Welcome to the Microsoft Windows Server Update Services Setup Wizard dialog box, click Next.
- In the License Agreement dialog box, read the Microsoft Software License Terms, click I accept the terms of the License agreement, and then click Next.
- In the Select Update Source dialog box, verify that the Store updates locally check box is selected, specify the path where you want to store the updates, and then click Next.
- In the Database Options dialog box, click Next.
- In the Web Site Selection dialog box, click Next.
- In the Mirror Update Settings dialog box, click Next.
- In the Ready to Install Microsoft Windows Server Update Services dialog box, review the settings, and then click Next.

Note
After you install WSUS, you can delete the WSUSFiles folder. However, do
not delete the WSUS folder that the WSUS installation creates.
