FIX: Error message when you add a calculated member to a cube in SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services Service Pack 4: "Unable to update the calculated member" (920121)

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You install the Microsoft Office 2003 primary interop assemblies redistributable package on a computer that is running Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services Service Pack 4 (SP4). In Analysis Manager, you create a new calculated member in a cube. Then, you specify a function in the value expression for the calculated member. In this scenario, you receive the following error message when you add the calculated member to the cube:
Unable to update the calculated member. Formula error - syntax error - token is not valid

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services service pack that contains this hotfix.
