SUMMARY

If you select a Works for Windows word processor spreadsheet or database document from the Windows File Manager but the Works for Windows program does not start, the file extensions may not have a file association or the extensions are not registered correctly in REG.DAT.

ASSOCIATING FILES

  1. In File Manager, select a Works for Windows word processing, spreadsheet or database document.
  2. From the File menu, choose Associate.
  3. Enter the Works for Windows command line in the Associate With field and choose OK. For example:

    c:\msworks\msworks.exe

You should now be able to select, or double-click, the file and launch Works for Windows. If not, then the files still need to be registered in the REG.DAT file.

REGISTERING FILES

Works for Windows Version 3.0

  1. From the File menu of File Manager or Program Manager, choose Run.
  2. On the command line, type Regedit.
  3. From the list of Registration files choose Works Word Processor, Works Spreadsheet or Chart or Works Database.
  4. From the File menu, choose Merge Registration File.
  5. Select Msworks.reg and choose the OK button.
  6. The message Information in msworks.reg has been successfully registered appears when the process is complete. Choose OK.
Note: The Regload program did not ship with Works for Windows version 3.0. If you upgraded from Works for Window version 2.x: you should be able to re-register these files following the steps outlined below.

Works for Window Version 2.x

  1. From the File menu of File Manager or Program Manager, choose Run.
  2. On the command line, type regload msworks.reg.
  3. The message "Information in msworks.reg has been successfully registered" appears when the process is completed. Choose OK.

MORE INFORMATION
