SUMMARY

In Microsoft Works 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a for Windows 95, if a character-mark footnote is inserted before existing numbered footnotes, the footnote number of all following footnotes will increase.

MORE INFORMATION

Works for Windows looks at all footnotes internally as numbered regardless of what you use to represent them. For example, if you insert a numbered footnote after three other footnotes, the footnote is numbered 4 regardless of whether the first three were character footnotes.

If you do not want the numbers to change or simply want to choose the numbers the footnotes receive, use only character-mark footnotes and manually enter the number for each footnote. To insert a character-mark footnote, do the following:

  1. From the Insert menu, click Footnote.
  2. In Works for Windows 95:

Click Special Mark in the Footnote Style option section.

    In Works 3.0:

Click Character Mark in the Footnote Type section.
  3. Enter the desired character in the Mark field.

In Works 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a for Windows 95, click Insert, and in Works 3.0, click OK.
